…is honestly more fun than you might have thought.
The first protocol in The 4 Protocols To Healing I wrote about in my previous blog is: Detoxification of the body.
It involves drinking bright delicious vegetable juices and thoroughly hydrating the system with lots of water.
It involves eating quinoa and cooked vegetables along with as many fermented vegetables, fruits, fresh herbs, and sprouted seeds as you like.
If that sounds daunting to you, fear not. It’s much more delicious and easy than it might sound to you.
To detoxify the body you want to give it mostly water-based food (plant food) for a period of time from 1-3 weeks, or longer in cases of disease. The nutrients in plant foods are the quickest to assimilate into your cellular makeup. Also, plant foods are alkaline and carry oxygen. Animal foods, although some are very healthful, are acidic and take longer to digest, so better to avoid while cleansing or healing.
Not to mention, the majority of conventional animal foods being consumed have steroids, hormones and antibiotics added to them. This is what most people need to detoxify from, so consuming them while trying to rid your body of them won’t work. I suggest giving up all animals foods for 3 weeks while you jump start your system with lots of fresh plant foods that you wouldn’t otherwise eat. If animal foods are necessary during the detoxification time, then organic is paramount. And really, organic is always paramount when it comes to animal products.
I want you to have a noticeable change in energy levels, glow, mood, sex drive, appetite for healthy foods, increased creativity and of course, healing. If you follow this protocol, you will.
For proper detoxification, you want to give your body at least 3 weeks of consuming only plant foods, but this doesn’t mean you have to starve. On the contrary, eat an abundance of organic whole plant foods. I have included a recipe for a meal that has hundreds of variations. A simple one-pot dish featuring 1 grain, 2 vegetables and fresh herbs of your choice can take you through the 3 weeks and become a weekly staple thereafter.
Grains: quinoa, red rice, black rice, black pearl barley, millet, buckwheat,
Vegetables: beets, carrots, kale, bok choy, tomatoes, zucchini, celery (anything you like),
Fresh herbs: whatever you like, fresh oregano, fresh basil, rosemary, thyme, cilantro…they are all great.
The recipe below shows you how to put a combination of these things together for a simple meal you won’t get tired of.
This type of meal, with a blended green juice (or two) every day is the diet plan for successful detoxification. If your health is seriously compromised, you may want to continue this detoxification diet for several more weeks.
HOWEVER please note, the colon needs to absorb these nutrients in order for the body to use these powerful healing nutrients. Eating lots of fiber rich foods will help clean and clear the colon, but another step is helpful. I recommend 3 colon hydrotherapy appointments during this 3-week detoxification plan. It will assist the body to better absorb the nutrients you are eating. MOST people have undigested proteins, carbohydrates and fats stuck to the colon wall, blocking its ability to do its job. You are doing yourself a huge favor by giving yourself some colon hydrotherapy.
The recipes below will be your staples for the 3 weeks you detoxify your body.
My favorite GREEN JUICE blend:
4 kale leaves
1 lemon, peeled
1/2 inch fresh ginger
4 cups water
blend and enjoy that!
One Pot Detox Dish
*Choose one grain, two (or more) vegetables, and a fresh herb.
Quinoa, wild rice, forbidden rice, red rice, barley, buckwheat, and millet.
Eggplant, onion, bell peppers (red, orange and yellow), tomato, zucchini, lotus root, beet, turnips, carrot, leeks, asparagus, broccoli, yellow squash, anything you like!
Cilantro, oregano, thyme, rosemary, green onion, chive, garlic, dill, anything you like.
*Ideally grains are soaked for several hours before they are cooked to release starch. Honestly, I rarely do that because my body digests grains like a champ. If you feel bloated at all from eating grains, soak them for several hours before cooking, that will make them digest and assimilate into the system with more ease. Grains are very high in B vitamins, which turn our food into energy, so they should serve your energy level, not deplete it.
Cook grains as directed. As the quinoa (or your choice of grain) cooks, wash and chop the vegetables however you like. Add the vegetables to the grain in the last 5 minutes of the steam. We want those veggies bright and slightly crisp, not overcooked. During that 5 minutes, wash and chop the fresh herb of choice. Add the chopped or minced fresh herb to the dish after you’ve turned off the heat. So, you are basically getting the raw herb, which is most powerful.
This simple, tasty and nutrient-dense dish has unlimited variations so you won’t get bored.
Let me know if you have any questions.
My next blog will discuss the immune system. Eating the way I’ve described here will support your strongest immune system, but there are some great boosters available to help.
